Frank Lampard says ‘it’s time’ for 20-year-old to shine for Chelsea FC
Frank Lampard is expecting big things from Mason Mount at Chelsea FC next season
Frank Lampard says it’s time for Mason Mount to shine for Chelsea FC after his return from a loan spell at Derby County.
The 20-year-old spent last season on loan to Derby working under Lampard and he has now returned to his parent club to fight for a spot in the first-team under the former England midfielder.
Mount recently signed a new five-year contract with Chelsea FC to commit his future to the west London club, and he now appears ready to fight for his place in the first team under Lampard.
Speaking after Chelsea FC’s 1-0 pre-season defeat by Kawasaki Frontale in Japan, Lampard said of Mount: “Mason’s part of the first-team squad this year and it’s time for him.
“His qualities will improve even more with the qualities around him.
“Everyone knows the hopes I have for Mason and he showed today a glimmer early in pre-season of what we might see this year and going forward.”
Mount scored eight goals in 35 games for Derby County last season as he helped the Rams to reach the Championship play-off final.
He will now be hoping to hold down a regular spot in the first team at Stamford Bridge as he bids to help the Blues finish in the top four next season under Lampard.
Chelsea FC opted to make Lampard their new boss at the start of the month after Maurizio Sarri chose to leave Stamford Bridge to take over at Juventus following just one season in charge at the west London club.
