Ross Barkley raves about new Chelsea FC boss Frank Lampard
Ross Barkley is thrilled to have linked up with Frank Lampard at Chelsea FC this summer
Ross Barkley has revealed his delight at working under Frank Lampard at Chelsea FC this summer.
The 41-year-old was confirmed as the club’s new boss in July after Maurizio Sarri opted to leave Stamford Bridge to take over at Juventus.
Lampard was brought in as Chelsea FC’s new manager despite him only having had one year’s worth of managerial experience under his belt with Derby County.
The former England international played with Barkley for his country, and the ex-Everton star is now thrilled to be working alongside him once again at Chelsea FC.
Speaking in an interview with Chelsea FC’s website, Barkley said: “As a kid at nine or ten you get stickers of players, and I had him, so to go from watching Frank on Match of the Day, to playing with him for England and then have him as a manager, it shows anything can happen in football.
“He was one of my idols as a kid. I saw him every week on the TV scoring goals. Frank will help all the midfielders here.
“He is a legend, the highest goal-scoring midfielder in Premier League history, so we are going to take all he has to give us and the experience he has from the past on board.”
The 25-year-old Barkley will be hoping to hold down a regular spot in the first team under Lampard in the forthcoming season after he was limited to just 13 starts in the Premier League under Sarri last term.
Barkley scored three goals and made five assists in 27 Premier League appearances for the Blues last term, as he also helped them to win the Europa League title.
Chelsea FC – who finished third in the table – will kick off their Premier League campaign with a crunch clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford on 11 August.
