Chelsea FC consider 18-year-old League One star – report
Chelsea FC are set to rival West Ham for 18-year-old Portsmouth star Leon Maloney, according to a report
Chelsea FC are interested in a potential swoop to sign Portsmouth teenager Leon Maloney, according to a report in England.
The Sun is reporting that the Blues are interested in a deal to sign the 18-year-old to bolster their squad this summer.
The same article states that Chelsea FC and West Ham have both been keeping close tabs on Maloney after his impressive performances for the Pompey academy last term.
According to the same story, the west London side have “accelerated” their interest after receiving some outstanding reports from their scouts about the teenager.
The Sun goes on to claim that West Ham are convinced the Portsmouth starlet will blossom into a top player in the next two seasons.
Chelsea FC and West Ham could be forced to act soon though, because one Dutch club is also interested in Maloney, according to the media outlet.
The Sun add that Volendam want Maloney after their manager Wim Jom was impressed with Maloney’s performances for Portsmouth’s youth team.
Chelsea FC are currently serving a two-window transfer ban handed out by Fifa.
The Blues have only been able to add Borussia Dortmund playmaker Christian Pulisic and Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic to their squad so far after agreeing deals prior to the summer transfer window.
