Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sends Man United message to Alexis Sanchez
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer challenges Alexis Sanchez to score 20 goals for Man United next season
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has challenged Alexis Sanchez to score 20 goals for Manchester United next season.
The Chile international has struggled to find consistent form for the Red Devils since moving to Old Trafford from Arsenal back in January 2018.
Sanchez struggled for both form and fitness last season as Manchester United ended up in sixth place in the Premier League table and without a trophy.
The 30-year-old attacker scored just one goal and made three assists in 20 Premier League games for the Red Devils last term.
Sanchez is Manchester United’s highest-paid player and the Red Devils will be keen to see the attacker repay some of his huge wages with some good performances next season.
And Red Devils boss Solskjaer seems to be confident that Sanchez will be able to hit top gear for the club next term.
Speaking in an interview quoted by Metro, Solskjaer said: “We know what he’s capable of.
“We have to find a way – me with Alexis, with the team – because there’s a top, top player there. If we get him firing, he can get us 20 goals easily if he gets on a good run.
“I don’t like talking about individuals too much, but Alexis has made headlines since he has come here. He had a fantastic time at Arsenal and we want to find him scoring goals at Old Trafford again. That can give us an extra boost.
“You saw it in the Copa America. The consistency hasn’t been there because he’s had some injuries. You see quality and you just hope that he’s going to get the consistency back into his game. He’s got a good chance now.”
Manchester United will be aiming to break back into the top four next term after their disappointing sixth-placed finish last season.
The Red Devils have so far only signed Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the summer transfer window, but they continue to be linked with a host of other names.
