Man United told 26-year-old will cost world-record £90m – report
Man United will have to make Harry Maguire the world's most expensive defender in order to complete a deal, according to a report
Manchester United will have to make Harry Maguire the world’s most-expensive defender in order to convince Leicester City to sell the centre-half, according to a report in England.
The Daily Telegraph is reporting that Manchester United have already failed with a £60m bid to sign the England international in the 2019 summer transfer window.
The same article states that Leicester are adamant that they won’t accept any offers below their £90m asking price as the Foxes look to scare off Manchester United.
According to the same story, reigning Premier League champions Manchester City are rivalling their derby rivals for Maguire’s signature ahead of the new season.
The Daily Telegraph go on to state that Leicester wouldn’t sell Maguire until a replacement had been found if Manchester City or Manchester United were to meet his asking price.
Manchester United would have to make Maguire the world’s most-expensive defender in order to sign the former Hull defender, eclipsing Liverpool FC’s £75m deal for Virgil van Dijk in January 2018.
The Reds were criticised for spending a huge fee on Van Dijk but the Netherlands international is the current PFA player of the year and led Liverpool FC to Champions League glory last term.
Manchester United conceded 54 times in 38 games in the Premier League last term.
