Reporter gives Man United transfer update on Toby Alderweireld
Man United aren't interested in Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld this summer, according to Kristof Terreur
Manchester United haven’t contacted Tottenham Hotspur about Toby Alderweireld this summer, according to Belgian reporter Kristof Terruer.
The Spurs defender has less than 12 months left to run on his current deal with the Champions League runners-up.
Alderweireld is available to sign for just £25m this summer due to a clause in his current contract at the Lilywhites.
However, the 30-year-old remains a Tottenham player for the foreseeable future with a lack of interest in the former Atletico Madrid man.
Both Manchester City and Manchester United have been linked with bids to sign Leicester defender Harry Maguire this summer.
Alderweireld has established himself as a key part of Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham team over the past few seasons alongside his compatriot Jan Vertonghen.
Belgian reporter Terreur has now revealed that Alderweireld isn’t attracting interest from Manchester United this summer.
“He was too old last year. He’s even older now,” Terruer told the Sky Sports’ Transfer Talk podcast.
“I’m not surprised they haven’t gone in for him unless they don’t get Maguire – maybe then they’ll go in for him.
“I don’t think some people at the club were big fans of Maguire last season. There haven’t been any concrete offers but we still have three weeks.”
Manchester United have been linked with a host of defenders in the summer transfer window so far, including the likes of Maguire, FC Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti and Napoli centre-half Kalidou Koulibaly.
The Red Devils have signed Wales international Daniel James in a £15m deal from Championship side Swansea City to bolster their midfield options.
Manchester United finally completed a £50m deal to sign Crystal Palace full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka at the weekend.
