The Red Devils are contending with speculation surrounding the future of their prized asset Paul Pogba this summer, who has been linked with a move to Real Madrid.
The club-record signing has also been touted as a potential option for Serie A champions Juventus, despite leaving the Turin side in an £89m deal three years ago.
Tielemans spent the second half of the 2018-19 season on loan at Leicester City, where he scored three times in 12 games to earn rave reviews in the English top flight.
Leicester have been unable to agree a permanent deal so far, leaving the door ajar for another Premier League club to sign the promising Belgium international.
Now, Belgian football expert Terruer has claimed that Manchester United have been in touch with Tielemans’ representatives to sound out a potential move to Old Trafford.
“He’s performed well in the Premier League,” Terruer told the Sky Sports Transfer Talk podcast.
“Monaco want £40m or £50m. Leicester aren’t willing to spend that money. Tielemans people expected a deal to be done a few weeks ago.
“They’ve also had phone calls from Man United, who are interested in Tielemans as one of three or four possible replacements for Pogba if he leaves this summer.”
Tielemans started his career at Belgian side Anderlecht before he completed a move to Leicester City in 2017.
The 21-year-old is an experienced Belgium international, with one goal in 23 appearances for the Red Devils.
Manchester United have already signed Crystal Palace defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Swansea midfielder Daniel James this summer.
