Major League Soccer (MLS) has improved over the past few years, helped in no small part by an influx of talent from the European game.

Numerous Premier League stars have had spells in the MLS including David Beckham, Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard.

Former Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney is currently starring in the league, firing 12 goals in 20 appearances for DC United in all competitions this season.

Read on as we look at three current Premier League players would be a hit in the MLS.

Mesut Ozil – Arsenal

Ozil’s eye-watering £350,000 per week salary puts him out of the reach of every MLS club, but the Arsenal playmaker would undoubtedly be a success if he did move to North America.

The German has previously stated that he would be interested in playing in the MLS and his languid style would be a perfect fit for the league.

Ozil has flopped at the Emirates Stadium, but the calmer waters of the MLS could spark a revival in his form.

Beckham’s Miami CF franchise have been linked with a move for Ozil and he is the type of box office name that would help the club make an immediate impact.

Vincent Janssen – Tottenham Hotspur

Janssen has scored just twice for Spurs since joining the club three years ago and he appears to have little chance of succeeding there.

He spent the 2017/18 campaign on loan at Fenerbahce before returning to north London, but an injury kept him out for most of last season.

The striker scored 32 goals in 49 appearances for AZ Alkmaar in the 2015/16 season and clearly has the ability to be productive at a slightly lower level.

Mexican club Monterrey are interested in Janssen, but a move to the MLS may be more befitting of his talents.

Ashley Young – Manchester United

Young penned a new one-year extension to his contract back in February, but the landscape has changed at Old Trafford since then.

The 33-year-old may find his game time limited this season as manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reshapes his squad and a move to the MLS could well appeal to the ex-England international.

Young has been linked with a move that would reunite him with former teammate Rooney at DC United and that could be a sensible switch.

His versatility would make him a useful acquisition to an MLS side and it would be no surprise to see Young close out his career in North America.
