Gary Neville sends message to Arsenal fans after Liverpool FC defeat
Gary Neville has his say on Arsenal's defeat by Liverpool FC in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon
Gary Neville believes that there were plenty of positives for Arsenal after the Gunners suffered a 3-1 loss to Liverpool FC in the Premier League on Saturday.
Arsenal ended up slumping to their first defeat of the Premier League season at Anfield as they were unable to keep Jurgen Klopp’s title hopefuls at bay.
Joel Matip headed Liverpool FC into the lead just before half-time, and Mohamed Salah scored twice in the second half before substitute Lucas Torreira pulled a goal back for the Gunners.
The defeat was Arsenal’s first of the season as they look to try and challenge for a top-four finish in the Premier League this term.
However, despite the disappointment of dropping three points against last season’s runners-up, former Manchester United defender Neville had some words of encouragement for the Gunners.
Speaking during Sky Sports‘ coverage of Saturday’s game, Neville said: “At the start of last season I said Unai Emery would need maybe three or four transfer windows.
“I do think, looking at this team here today, that they’re better than they were 12 months ago. And I’m sure they’ll be better again in 12 months. It’s not going to happen overnight.
“I’ve seen things from Arsenal today that I quite like. They are playing against a brilliant team, let’s be clear. We’re talking about one of the best in Europe. That’s told today, but from an Arsenal point of view, we’re talking about building block by block. And I don’t mind what I’ve seen.
“I think over the season it will bear out that Arsenal do OK.”
Arsenal will attempt to get back to winning ways on Sunday afternoon when they host derby rivals Tottenham Hotspur at The Emirates.
The Gunners are aiming to try and break back into the top four after they finished fifth and without a trophy in Unai Emery’s first campaign in charge last term.
