Arsenal are ready to let Nacho Monreal leave and sign for Real Sociedad this week if the defender asks to leave, according to reports in the British media.

The Sun is reporting that the 33-year-old, who is in the final year of his contract at The Emirates, could be set to leave the north London club before the close of the European transfer window.

The same story says that Monreal knows that he will not be offered a new deal to extend his stay beyond the end of his current contract next summer.

According to the same report, Unai Emery is happy for Monreal to stay at The Emirates for this season and then leave on a free transfer next summer.

However, Emery will also not stand in Monreal’s way if the Spaniard decides that he wants to leave and join Real Sociedad this week.

Should he leave, Arsenal would be prepared to accept a nominal fee of around £3m for his sale.

The 33-year-old has started all three of Arsenal’s Premier League games so far this season, including the 3-1 loss to Liverpool FC on Saturday.

Arsenal will return to Premier League action on Sunday with a home clash against derby rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
