Nicolas Pepe explains his decision to sign for Arsenal from Lille this summer
Nicolas Pepe has revealed that he opted to sign for Arsenal this summer because the north London club matched his ambitions.
The Ivory Coast international has been getting used to life at The Emirates since joining the Gunners in a club-record deal from Lille towards the end of the summer transfer window.
Pepe is now focused on helping Emery’s men mount a serious challenge for a top-four finish in the Premier League this season.
The 24-year-old has made his first two Premier League appearances for the Gunners after having come off the bench in both of their wins over Newcastle United and Burnley so far this season.
He will now be hoping that he has done enough to earn a starting spot in the side for their crunch clash against Liverpool FC at Anfield this weekend.
Pepe was linked to a number of other clubs before his transfer to Arsenal was confirmed.
And the attacker has now lifted the lid on his decision to sign for Arsenal ahead of other clubs.
Speaking in an interview quoted by Metro, Pepe said: “I chose to come here because it’s a club with a lot of ambition,’
“They have the dream of coming back to the Champions League and I am also an ambitious person, so the choice was very logical.
“I am attracted to the Premier League because it is an extremely intense championship and the best league in the world.
“The idea is to win the Europa League and that is a goal of ours. It’s a European event and our goal is to do better than last season. I believe we will.”
Arsenal finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last season and without a trophy. They and Liverpool FC are the only two teams to have won both of their Premier League fixtures so far this term.
