Harry Redknapp has urged Mauricio Pochettino to start Christian Eriksen in Tottenham Hotspur’s clash against Arsenal at The Emirates on Sunday.

The Denmark international is facing an uncertain future at the north London side amid continued interest from La Liga giants Real Madrid.

Eriksen has little over 12 months left to run on his current deal at Old Trafford to raise questions about his long-term future at Tottenham.

Pochettino opted to start Eriksen on the bench for their 1-0 loss to Newcastle United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The 27-year-old was a second-half substitute but Eriksen couldn’t inspire a comeback against the Magpies as Spurs lost their first game of the season.

Tottenham will make the short trip to Arsenal in their next Premier League fixture at The Emirates on Sunday afternoon.

Former Spurs manager Redknapp believes Pochettino should place his faith in Eriksen and start the Danish playmaker in his team.

“Pochettino left Eriksen out of the first game against Villa, and he turned the game on its head when he came on and they got the win,” Redknapp told talkSPORT.

“But then he leaves him out again against Newcastle at the weekend, it’s a strange one.

“Without Dele Alli, Eriksen is the only player Spurs have got who can make that final pass. Why was he on the bench?

“I know he wants to go, but while he’s there I’d still be looking to play him to win games.

“If there is a problem with him, why bring him on, just because you’re in trouble?”

Tottenham finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last term to continue their record of finishing in the top four in four of the last five seasons.

The north London side suffered a 2-0 loss to Liverpool FC in the Champions League final to miss out on the chance to win the competition for the first time.
