Brendan Rodgers says he admires how Frank Lampard has given youth a chance in his opening games in charge of Chelsea FC.

The Blues appointed Lampard as Maurizio Sarri’s replacement in the summer following months of speculation surrounding the former Napoli manager’s future.

Although Sarri was a divisive figure at Stamford Bridge, the Italian coach still managed to lead Chelsea FC to a third-placed finish and the Europa League title.

Lampard has been limited in terms of his ability to make improvement to the Chelsea FC squad after Fifa handed out a two-window transfer ban to the London side.

The Chelsea FC manager has been giving youth a chance to excel in his team – but the Blues suffered a chastening 4-0 loss to their bitter rivals Manchester United last weekend.

Lampard’s side were better against Liverpool FC as goals from Jorginho and Olivier Giroud cancelled out Sadio Mane’s double to force penalties in the Uefa Super Cup.

Chelsea FC youngster Tammy Abraham missed the decisive penalty kick to hand the trophy to Liverpool FC in Istanbul.

Speaking about Lampard’s impact at Chelsea FC since taking over the reins, Rodgers was full of praise for the former England international’s willingness to place his trust in youth.

“I think Frank has done very well since he has gone in,” Rodgers told Sky Sports.

“You can’t forget this is a team that has finished third last season and won the Europa League. So it tells you everything about the talent that is in the squad.

“But I think Frank is perfect for it. Him, Jody and Joe Edwards, who are around the first team, they understand the fabric of Chelsea and what it is about.

“I have been really impressed watching the team. Okay, they have lost their first couple of games but the tempo of their game is good. They are obviously going to play at a higher intensity and tempo in their game.

“Frank understands the policy at the club, how it works and will be looking to bring in some of the young players which he has done. He has given them an opportunity. You have to admire that.

“People have always looked at Chelsea and wondered if they are going to get a chance. For whatever reason they haven’t got the opportunity. Frank is now there with Jody and Joe and will give them that chance to flourish. Then they are always going to have top-class players around that.”

Chelsea FC will take on Leicester at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
