Harry Redknapp predicts Frank Lampard’s first season at Chelsea FC
Former Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is confident Frank Lampard can steer Chelsea FC to a fourth-placed finish
Harry Redknapp has backed Frank Lampard to guide Chelsea FC to a top-four finish in his first season in charge at Stamford Bridge.
The former England midfielder took over the reins of the west London outfit earlier this summer despite being in professional management little over 12 months.
Lampard led Derby County to the Championship play-off final before the Rams suffered a 2-1 loss to Aston Villa in the Wembley showpiece to miss out on promotion.
The Chelsea FC record goal-scorer replaced Maurizio Sarri at Stamford Bridge after the Italian head coach opted to return to Serie A with champions Juventus.
Lampard has been unable to make new signings due to Chelsea FC’s transfer ban, although Mateo Kovacic and Christian Pulisic have arrived in prearranged deals.
The new Chelsea FC boss won’t be able to count on Eden Hazard after the Belgium international completed a big-money move to La Liga giants Real Madrid this summer.
Former Spurs boss Redknapp gave his prediction for Lampard’s first season in charge of Chelsea FC.
“It’s going to be a tough season for Frank (Lampard),” Redknapp told BetVictor.
“It’s great to see him get the opportunity at Chelsea and I’m sure he’ll do well in the long term, but they’ve lost their best player in Hazard.
“He’s got a big job and it’s going to be a tough year.
“If they make the top four, which I think they can finish fourth, it’ll be a big achievement.”
Chelsea FC finished in third place in the Premier League table last season to secure their return to the Champions League after a 12-month absence.
The Blues won the Europa League thanks to a 4-1 victory over their bitter rivals Arsenal in the Baku showpiece back in May.
