Petr Cech reacts to Chelsea FC’s Champions League draw
Petr Cech has his say on Chelsea FC's Champions League group-stage draw
Petr Cech has admitted that Chelsea FC are not facing an easy group after they discovered their Champions League group-stage opponents on Thursday.
The Blues were pitted against Lille, Ajax and Valencia in Group H in Thursday’s draw as Frank Lampard’s side prepare to try and progress in Europe’s elite club competition.
Chelsea FC are back in the Champions League after Maurizio Sarri led them to a third-placed finish in the top flight and the Europa League crown last term.
Former Blues goalkeeper Cech believes that the west London side have been placed in a “very even” group that will be a significant challenge for Frank Lampard’s men.
Speaking in an interview quoted by Metro, Cech said: “It’s not an easy group because it’s a very even group.
“All the teams have a lot of quality. It’s one of those groups where everybody can beat everybody and this makes it very interesting.
“But we can be satisfied with the draw. We avoided long travels so that’s one of the positives.”
Cech was appointed as Chelsea FC’s technical and performance adviser in June following his retirement at the end of 2018-19 season.
Chelsea FC will kick off their Champions League campaign with a home clash against Valencia on Tuesday 17 September at Stamford Bridge.
Meanwhile, Chelsea FC are currently preparing for their home clash in the Premier League against Sheffield United this weekend.
The west London side secured their first Premier League win of the season under Lampard last weekend when they claimed a 3-2 victory at Norwich City.
The Blues are aiming to try and maintain their place in the top four this season after they finished third last term.
