Frank Lampard talks up Christian Pulisic at Chelsea FC
Frank Lampard is hoping that Christian Pulisic can be a key player for Chelsea FC this season
Frank Lampard admits that Christian Pulisic is a “big signing” for Chelsea FC and is hoping that he will be able to adapt quickly to the rigours of the Premier League.
The USA international linked up with the Blues squad this summer after his transfer from Borussia Dortmund was agreed in January.
The American showed his class in front of goal on Wednesday when he scored twice in Chelsea FC’s 5-3 pre-season friendly win over RB Salzburg.
The 20-year-old will now be hoping to showcase his talent on a regular basis in the Premier League for Lampard’s men.
And the Chelsea FC boss is clearly hoping to see Pulisic play a key role for the Blues this season, especially following Eden Hazard’s big-money move to Real Madrid this summer.
Speaking at his post-match news conference on Wednesday, Lampard said: “He is a big signing for us with big potential but the big question is he has to adapt to a different league, but I have seen already a really good attitude and a willingness to listen to information.
“He is 20 years of age so we have to remember he is young. I am happy to work with him, I want him to improve him.”
The Chelsea FC boss also explained what he liked about Pulisic’s performance in Austria in midweek.
He continued: “He [Pulisic] showed his quality and I love the nature of his goals where he has an intention to run behind the line and not come short – and the finishing was good.
“It is what he is going to have to do because he is going to play in the Premier League and the Champions League, this is the top end.
“A winger has to have the desire not just to be tidy but to be getting in behind people and then with his quality he can be a really big player for us.”
Chelsea FC will begin their Premier League campaign with a trip to Manchester United on Sunday 11 August.
The Blues are aiming to at least maintain their place in the top four this season after they finished third and won the Europa League under Maurizio Sarri last term.
