The 20-year-old scored for the Blues on his home debut for Lampard’s men in the seventh minute in west London after a bright start from the hosts.
However, Chelsea FC were pegged back in the second half when Wilfred Ndidi netted an equaliser for Brendan Rodgers’ men, to cap a frustrating afternoon for the Blues.
Mount was in top form throughout and he won the ball off Ndidi and swiftly fired home for the opening goal at Stamford Bridge.
And Lampard was full of praise for the Blues youngster, who was making his home debut, despite a frustrating afternoon for the hosts overall.
Speaking at his post-match news conference, Lampard said: “The epitome of his talent was shown in his goal – great energy off the ball to close people down and then the quality to finish it.
“He could have scored two more goals in that opening period actually but we know he’s going to get better and better.
“That was the first of some big moments for Mason and I’m delighted for him on that level but I know he’ll have wanted that to be part of a win.”
Chelsea FC are still looking for their first competitive win under Lampard and they will return to Premier League action on Saturday lunchtime when they take on Norwich City away from home.
The Blues were beaten 4-0 by Manchester United at Old Trafford in their Premier League opener this season and then lost to Chelsea FC on penalties in the Uefa Super Cup.
