BBC Sport pundit sends Chelsea FC message to Tammy Abraham
Garth Crooks has his say on Tammy Abraham's performance in Chelsea FC's 3-2 win over Norwich City on Saturday
Garth Crooks has admitted that he has had to change his mind about Tammy Abraham after the striker helped to firs Chelsea FC to a 3-2 win at Norwich City on Saturday.
The 21-year-old has featured in all three of Chelsea FC’s Premier League games so far this season, with Frank Lampard clearly having a lot of faith in the young forward.
He also missed the decisive penalty in Chelsea FC’s Uefa Super Cup defeat by Liverpool FC earlier in the month.
Abraham proved the difference for the Blues on Saturday lunchtime as he scored two goals in the west London club’s 3-2 victory at Carrow Road as Lampard’s men notched up their first top-flight win of the season.
And Crooks has admitted that he was highly impressed by what he saw from Abraham on Saturday as Chelsea FC claimed an important win away from home.
Writing in his column for BBC Sport, Crooks said: “I must be honest, I never thought that Tammy Abraham was a Chelsea player. That was because I always saw Chelsea as a top-four team.
“Frank Lampard has seen something in this kid and Abraham looks like he is prepared to walk over broken glass for Lampard.
“Provided that allegiance remains intact, Abraham has a chance of making it at Chelsea. His first goal against the Norwich was brilliantly instinctive, while his second was taken like a player who is growing in confidence.
“Abraham can now put that penalty miss in the Super Cup well and truly behind him and the trolls can take a running jump.”
Chelsea FC will return to Premier League action on Saturday when they host Sheffield United in front of their home fans.
The Blues are currently in 13th place in the Premier League table after having taken just four points from their opening three top flight games under Lampard.
