Frank Lampard provides Chelsea FC transfer update on Michy Batshuayi
Chelsea FC manager Frank Lampard gives his verdict on Michy Batshuayi's future
Frank Lampard has insisted that Michy Bathshuayi’s future lies at Chelsea FC.
The Belgium international returned to the west London side this summer following loan stints at Spanish side Valencia and Premier League outfit Crystal Palace last term.
The popular 25-year-old striker was deemed surplus to requirements under Lampard’s predecessor Maurizio Sarri and former Italy head coach Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge.
Reports in the English media suggest that Serie A giants AS Roma are interested in a deal to sign the Belgian forward before the close of Italy’s transfer window.
Chelsea FC were unable to sign new players in the summer following the implementation of Fifa’s transfer ban.
Therefore, Batshuayi could have a role to play at Chelsea FC this season given Lampard’s limited resources up front.
The Blues have relied upon Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham so far this term following the departures of Eden Hazard, Gonzalo Higuain and Alvaro Morata in the summer.
Speaking at his media conference at Cobham training ground on Friday about Batshuayi’s future at Chelsea FC, Lampard said:
“The future is Michy is here as one of our strikers. We know we have three strikers but there will be opportunities for him.
“With Michy it’s important he trains at the top, top level every day, gets himself absolutely fit to play the way I want my strikers to play, which is constant movement on and off the ball and to try and score goals.
“But he’s very much our player and competing with Tammy and Oli for that space.”
Chelsea FC will return to Premier League action next Saturday lunchtime when they take on Norwich City away from home.
