Frank Lampard previews Chelsea FC v Leicester City
Frank Lampard looks ahead to Chelsea FC's clash with Leicester City in the Premier League on Sunday
Frank Lampard has warned his Chelsea FC players to “respect” Leicester City when the Blues host the Foxes in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
The west London side are preparing for their first home Premier League game with Lampard at the helm as they look to record their first competitive win of the season.
Chelsea FC suffered a disappointing 4-0 loss to Manchester United in their opening Premier League game of the campaign last weekend at Old Trafford.
The Blues then lost on penalties to Liverpool FC in the Uefa Super Cup in Istanbul on Wednesday night after a 2-2 draw following extra time.
Lampard and his Chelsea FC side will be desperate to kick-start their season in front of their home fans on Sunday afternoon, and the Blues boss is hoping to see his side deliver the points in west London.
Speaking in an interview quoted by Chelsea FC’s website, Lampard said: “It’s a big game for us in front of our home fans for the first time this season.
“Leicester are very much a team that should be respected for the players and manager they have got and how they have performed in recent years.
“I know Brendan [Rodgers] well. He’s a fantastic manager. He’s got a great group of players there, a nice mix of top quality young players and experienced players. They will be well coached so we are going to have a big challenge.
“Our mindset is important. It’s been a strange two games. We can’t think the strong performance on Wednesday will replicate itself just because we walk out on that pitch.
“It’s important we tackle it head on with a real focus.”
Chelsea FC are looking to maintain their place in the top four this season after they finished third and won the Europa League last term under Maurizio Sarri.
The Blues brought in Lampard as their new boss after Sarri opted to leave Chelsea FC and take over at Juventus in the summer.
