Ian Wright took to social media to heap praise on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after the striker helped to fire Arsenal to a 1-0 win over Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon.

Unai Emery opted to start the likes of Alexandre Lacazette and new signing Nicolas Pepe on the bench for the Gunners’ trip to the north-east of England.

After a goalless first half at St James’ Park in which neither team really clicked into gear, Aubameyang gave Unai Emery’s men the lead in the 58th minute when he poked the ball home from close range.

And former Gunners striker Wright was clearly impressed by what he saw from Aubameyang as the Gabon international gave the visitors the lead with a cool finish.

Reacting to Aubameyang’s opener, Wright wrote on Twitter: “The composure @Aubameyang7 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾.”

Wright’s former team-mate David Seaman also chimed in to praise Aubameyang after the opener.

Seaman wrote on Twitter: “Class finish from @Aubameyang7.”

New signings Nicolas Pepe and Gabriel Martinelli came on in the second half to make their Premier League debuts for the Gunners.

Arsenal will return to Premier League action next weekend when they take on Burnley on Saturday lunchtime at The Emirates.

The Gunners are aiming to try and break back into the top four this season after they finished fifth and without a trophy last term.
