Jurgen Klopp gives latest Liverpool FC injury update on Alisson Becker
Liverpool FC manager Jurgen Klopp provides an update on Alisson Becker after his injury on Friday night
Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Alisson Becker won’t feature in the Uefa Super Cup after the goalkeeper suffered an injury in Liverpool FC’s 4-1 victory over Norwich City on Friday night.
The Brazil international was forced off in the 38th minute of their Premier League opener after the Liverpool FC number one went down following a simple clearance.
Alisson was replaced by new signing Adrian in the Liverpool FC goal seven minutes before half-time after the South American shot-stopper suffered a suspected calf injury.
The former West Ham United goalkeeper was unable to keep a clean sheet on his debut after Norwich midfielder Teemu Pukki scored a consolation goal in the second half.
Liverpool FC will take on Chelsea FC in the Uefa Super Cup in Istanbul on Wednesday night before the Reds take on Southampton in their next Premier League fixture on Saturday 15 August.
Speaking at his post-match media conference about the severity of Alisson’s injury, Klopp ruled out the Brazilian goalkeeper featuring against Chelsea FC next week.
“There is actually nothing bad to say about the game apart from Ali’s injury. That is, of course, not good for us, but we have to see how serious it is and then we have to deal with it.
“It’s the calf and that’s it. He couldn’t carry on, that’s not a good sign. We have to see.
“Wednesday [in the Super Cup], he will not play – with all my experience, I can say that already. He is injured, for sure, so we have to see how much.”
Liverpool FC signed Alisson in a £67m deal from Italian side AS Roma in the 2018 summer transfer window.
The Reds finished with the best defensive record in the Premier League table last term after conceding a mere 22 times.
Alisson kept more clean sheets than any other Premier League goalkeeper last term.
