Jamie Carragher: 22-year-old could take Liverpool FC to next level
Liverpool FC legend Jamie Carragher would like to see the Reds sign Leicester City midfielder James Maddison
Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool FC should look to sign Leicester City midfielder James Maddison if Jurgen Klopp wants a player to take them to the next level.
The Merseyside outfit didn’t make any marquee signings in the summer transfer window as Klopp decided to stick with the same squad that won the Champions League last term.
Teenager Sepp van den Berg and Harvey Elliott arrived from FC Twolle and Fulham, while Adrian completed a free transfer from West Ham to provide back-up for Alisson Becker.
Maddison was linked with a potential move to Manchester United in the summer but nothing came of the speculation.
His Leicester team-mate Harry Maguire completed a move to Manchester United in a world-record £80m deal for a defender earlier this month.
Maddison created the assist for Wilfred Ndidi’s goal in Leicester’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea FC in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.
Former Liverpool FC defender Carragher talked up Maddison as a player who could have a positive impact on Klopp’s team.
“I think he is the one player outside of the top six who Liverpool should be looking at,” Carragher told Monday Night Football on Sky Sports.
“People have been talking about Coutinho coming back, but obviously that hasn’t happened as he’s gone to Bayern Munich.
“If you’re looking in the Premier League, yes he will cost a lot of money, but he should be the one Liverpool are looking at if you’re going to that next step up.”
Maddison scored seven goals and made seven assists in his first season in the Premier League with Leicester.
Liverpool FC will take on Arsenal in their next Premier League fixture on Saturday evening.
