The Liverpool FC star has seen his status rise over the past 18 months or so after Van Dijk became the world’s most expensive defender following his £75m move from Southampton in 2018.
Van Dijk’s transfer fee has since been surpassed by Harry Maguire’s £80m move to their bitter rivals Manchester United from Leicester City earlier this month.
The Netherlands international won the PFA player of the year award last term after Liverpool FC managed to finish in second place in the table with the league’s best defensive record.
Van Dijk was named man of the match in Liverpool FC’s 2-0 victory over domestic rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League final in Madrid last term.
Chelsea FC winger Pedro admitted that Van Dijk is one of two defenders who are class above the rest in the world at the moment.
“They are very good central defenders, probably at this time at the top,” Pedro told Goal.com.
“Sergio Ramos is very good. I know him very well: great defender, great with the ball.
“Van Dijk is also the same: so strong, very good in the air, scores goals. Two big players.
“He’s in a good moment. Last season with Liverpool, he had a great season winning the Champions League and the best player in the premier league. He’s in a good moment and he’s a good defender.”
Van Dijk got on the score-sheet in Liverpool FC’s 4-1 victory over promoted side Norwich City in the Merseyside outfit’s season opener last week.
Pedro and his Chelsea FC team-mates suffered a 4-0 loss to bitter rivals Manchester United in the Premier League at Old Trafford on Sunday.
