Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain opens up on his Liverpool FC return
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain concedes that he has had to work hard on his fitness levels with Liverpool FC in pre-season
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has conceded that it has been a bit of a “struggle” for him during pre-season as he works on his fitness levels with Liverpool FC.
The England midfielder missed most of last season due to a serious knee injury and he is only now starting to work his way back to full fitness.
Oxlade-Chamberlain’s injury came as a disappointing blow for the midfielder as he had been starting to enjoy some fine form for the Reds following his transfer from Arsenal back in August 2017.
The 25-year-old will now be hoping prove his fitness to Jurgen Klopp as he bids to hold down a regular spot in the first team this season.
However, the former Arsenal man has admitted that his fitness levels have been fully put to the test during a gruelling pre-season with the Reds.
Speaking in an interview with the Daily Mail, Oxlade-Chamberlain said: “It’s been a bit of a struggle.
“I forget that I haven’t played for a long time. If I am honest, the last couple of games haven’t been at the level that I want. A lot of the lads will feel tired in pre-season. But, for me, it’s a bit more of a shock to the system.
“There is a place where I think I should be and where I want to be. But there is a reality of the process that I am going through. It’s going to be peaks and troughs.
“Hopefully, I’m at the stage where it will keep improving. I just try to remind myself I have been through the worst of it.”
Liverpool FC will be aiming to go one step further in the Premier League this season after they finished second and just a point behind Manchester City last term.
The Reds did manage to end last season on a high when they beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 in the Champions League final back in June.
