Fabinho has insisted that he and his Liverpool FC team-mates are excited about defending their Champions League title this season.

The holders are looking to reach the final of Europe’s elite club competition for the third season running this term under Jurgen Klopp.

The Merseyside outfit lifted the trophy for a sixth time in the club’s history last season as they won their first piece of major silverware under Klopp.

Liverpool FC were 2-0 winners over Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League final back in June and they have since also beaten Chelsea FC to lift the Uefa Super Cup.

Attentions will now begin to turn to Liverpool FC’s hopes of challenging for the Champions League title once again this season.

And Brazilian midfielder Fabinho insists that he is looking forward to the return of the group stage of Europe’s elite club competition next month.

Speaking in an interview with Liverpool FC’s website, Fabinho said: “The Champions League is a special competition and we’re the reigning champions, so there’s always going to be a lot of expectation about who we’re going to come up against. We’re relaxed about it.

“We’re fully aware that when we return from this international break there will be a more intense fixture schedule with midweek games, but that’s good – we like it.

“As we’re the reigning champions, all the other teams are going to focus much more on us, they’ll know more about our team.

“We’re excited about this season’s competition. We know how strong the team is and, as always, we have to work hard and with confidence.”

Liverpool FC will return to Premier League action on Saturday evening when they travel to Burnley in the top flight.

The Reds are top of the table and are the only team in the top flight to have won all three of their opening Premier League games this term.
