Gary Lineker sends message to Liverpool FC star Virgil van Dijk
Gary Lineker has his say on Virgil van Dijk after the Liverpool FC defender won the Uefa Men's Player of the Year award
Gary Lineker took to social media to praise Virgil van Dijk for showing a “brilliant effort” and winning the Uefa Men’s Player of the Year award.
The Liverpool FC defender edged out FC Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and Juventus’ Cristiano Ronaldo for the prestigious prize.
Van Dijk was part of the Liverpool FC team who won the Champions League and finished in second place in the Premier League last season, helping Jurgen Klopp’s side to win their first major trophy under the German coach.
The 28-year-old becomes the first defender to ever win the award since the first one was held in 2010-11.
And England legend Lineker clearly thought that Van Dijk was fully deserving of the prize if his reaction on social media was anything to go by.
Lineker wrote on Twitter: “Congratulations to @VirgilvDijk on becoming UEFA men’s Player Of The Year. Brilliant effort.”
Van Dijk will be expecting to start for Liverpool FC when the Reds return to Premier League action on Saturday with a trip to Burnley in the top flight.
The Reds head into this weekend’s round of games at the top of the Premier League table after having won all three of their opening games.
Liverpool FC claimed a dominant 3-1 win over Arsenal last time out in front of their home fans at Anfield.
