Joe Gomez says he and his Liverpool FC team-mates will do all they can to deliver another trophy when they take on Chelsea FC in the Uefa Super Cup on Wednesday night.

The Reds are preparing to take on the Europa League winners in Istanbul this week as they aim to win a trophy and set themselves up for a successful campaign.

Liverpool FC missed their first chance of winning silverware this season when they were beaten on penalties by Manchester City in the Community Shield at Wembley earlier this month.

The Merseyside outfit won their first major trophy under Jurgen Klopp last season when they lifted the Champions League back at the start of June.

And Reds defender Gomez now says that Liverpool FC are firmly focused on following that trophy up with more silverware this season – starting on Wednesday night.

Speaking in an interview with Liverpool FC’s website, Gomez said: “I think [the Community Shield] would have been nice but we lost the way we did, which was unfortunate.

“I think now that just made us even hungrier to get our hands on a piece of silverware again. I think that’s going to be our aim this year, just to get as much silverware as possible.

“Hopefully we can do it, but it’s obviously against a tough side [Chelsea FC] and we know it won’t be easy. We’re looking forward to it.”

Liverpool FC will return to Premier League action this weekend with a trip to Southampton on Saturday.

The Reds kicked off their top-flight campaign with a 4-1 win over Norwich City in front of their home fans at Anfield on Friday.
