Danny Murphy predicts where Man United, Chelsea FC will finish this season
BBC Sport pundit Danny Murphy is backing Manchester United to finish ahead of Chelsea FC and Arsenal
Danny Murphy believes that Manchester United will finish ahead of Arsenal and Chelsea FC in the Premier League this season.
The Red Devils suffered their first Premier League defeat of the season at the weekend following a 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace.
Manchester United looked to have rescued a point when Daniel James cancelled out Jordan Ayew’s opener at Old Trafford.
However, Patrick van Aonholt netted a winner in the third minute of added time at the end of the Premier League clash.
Chelsea FC, meanwhile, recorded their first Premier League victory of the season under Frank Lampard at Carrow Road on Saturday.
The Blues were 3-2 winners against Norwich City thanks to Tammy Abraham’s winner in the second half.
Arsenal saw their 100 per cent start to the season come to an end with a 3-1 loss to Liverpool FC.
However, former Tottenham midfielder Murphy is tipping Manchester United to secure a top-four finish ahead of Arsenal and Chelsea FC.
“I actually think fourth will go to Man United,” Murphy told the Daily Mirror.
“I think Chelsea will do all right and Frank Lampard is a great appointment.
“But United have gone big in the market and the quality they have in the final third.
“I mean there is doom and gloom around them, but I think they’ll surprise a few.”
Manchester United finished in sixth spot in the Premier League table last term to miss out on a Champions League place.
The Red Devils haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013 when Sir Alex Ferguson was still in charge of the 20-time English champions.
Manchester United signed Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire and James in the summer.
