Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has urged his Manchester United players to have the “bit between their teeth” when the Red Devils make the trip to Southampton next Saturday.

Manchester United suffered a 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon to suffer their first defeat of the 2019-20 Premier League season.

Palace forward Jordan Ayew scored in the 32nd minute to break the deadlock before summer signing Daniel James equalised in the 89th minute at Old Trafford.

However, full-back Patrick van Aanholt netted in the third minute of added time at the Theatre of Dreams to secure a 2-1 victory over Manchester United.

Manchester United have failed to secure a victory in their last two games following a 1-1 stalemate at Wolves before a 2-1 loss to Palace.

The Red Devils will make the long trip to Southampton in their next Premier League fixture.

Manchester United have dropped points in two of their last three visits to St Mary’s.

Speaking at his post-match media conference at Old Trafford following their surprise loss to Crystal Palace, Solskjaer explained what Manchester United need to do at Southampton.

“The last two results were disappointments because at Wolverhampton you feel we deserved to win, and we deserved to win, but you don’t always get what you deserve in football,” Solskjaer said.

“We have to make sure we go to Southampton with the bit between our teeth and play better, score goals and win the game.”

Manchester United are looking to improve upon their sixth-placed finish in the Premier League last term.

The Red Devils haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013.
