Ole Gunnar Solskjaer opens up about Alexis Sanchez at Man United
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has an update for Man United fans about Alexis Sanchez's situation at the club
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has issued his backing for Alexis Sanchez and says that the forward is “close” to being part of his Manchester United squad again.
The Chile international has struggled badly for both form and fitness since his move to Old Trafford from Arsenal in the transfer window of January 2018.
Sanchez is yet to feature this season after having returned later to the club than most of his team-mates due to his participation in the Copa America with Chile.
The attacker is now building up his fitness behind closed doors at Carrington, and Solskjaer has appeared to indicate that he will be considering him for contention in the coming days.
Speaking at a news conference at Carrington on Friday, Solskjaer said: “Alexis is such a professional.
“He comes in every single day, working really hard, and he wants to be a part of this. Of course, there have been [media] stories again, [saying] that he has been put in the Reserves. Of course he hasn’t!
“He’s part of our squad and he’s a very, very good player.
“He’s just had a couple of weeks, three weeks now, so he’s a few weeks behind the rest, but he’s very close to being part of it.”
Manchester United are currently preparing for their trip to Wolves in the Premier League on Monday night.
The Red Devils kicked their season off in style last weekend with an impressive 4-0 victory over Chelsea FC in front of their home fans last Sunday afternoon.
Solskjaer has been tasked with steering the Red Devils back into the top four this season after they finished sixth and without a trophy last term.
