Sky Sports pundit reacts to Man United deal for Harry Maguire
Graeme Souness has his say on Man United's deal to sign Harry Maguire from Leicester City
Graeme Souness is backing the “outstanding” Harry Maguire to be a big success at Manchester United.
The Red Devils were widely reported to have agreed a deal to bring the Leicester City centre-half to Old Trafford on Friday, with the transfer fee said to be around £80m – a record fee for a defender.
Manchester United have been strongly linked with a move to sign the defender throughout the summer window and they will now look forward to welcoming him into their squad ahead of the new campaign.
Maguire, 26, has earned a reputation as one of England’s finest young defenders and Manchester United fans will be hoping that he will be able to help shore up their defence this season.
And former Liverpool FC star Souness seems to think that the defender will be a great signing for the Red Devils.
Speaking in an interview quoted by Metro, Souness said: “Everyone knows United are desperate to get back to the top of the Premier League.
“There’s a premium paid normally for Manchester United but this time I think there’s a premium on the premium.
“But Harry Maguire is a top player and, at 26, has eight years left at the top in him providing he doesn’t get any injuries.
“He has outstanding quality. He can defend, he’s great on the ball and has great presence. He gets goals, too. I think it’s a great buy.”
Manchester United finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last season under Solskjaer as they missed out on a trophy.
They will begin their Premier League campaign when they take on Chelsea FC at Old Trafford on Sunday 11 August looking to get their season off to a positive start.
