Jonny Evans backs latest Man United signing to be a big hit
Jonny Evans has his say on Man United's signing of Virgil van Dijk from Leicester City this summer
Jonny Evans is tipping Harry Maguire to end up being a great signing for Manchester United.
The 26-year-old defender became the Red Devils’ third signing of the summer transfer window earlier this month as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer moved to bolster his squad at Old Trafford.
Maguire made his debut for Manchester United during Sunday’s 4-0 win over Chelsea FC and he produced a man of the match performance to help the Red Devils get their season off to a flier.
The former Leicester City centre-half is widely regarded as one of the top young defenders around, and Evans is convinced that Maguire will end up being a big success at Old Trafford.
Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports, Evans said: “Both [Maguire and Virgil van Dijk] are great on the ball, and Harry has got explosive pace people don’t see. He is powerful and good in the air.
“Everyone will compare the transfer fees but it’s so difficult to judge transfer fees nowadays. We are all human and it is weird we get traded for money.
“In the transfer market it’s all supply and demand and things can go up and down at any moment. The most important thing is for him to be judged on how he plays.
“I don’t have any worries about him there. He is tailor-made for Manchester United, it was a great move for him.
“He’s a player they needed. He’s got a really likeable nature about him. He will be a real hit there, he is a fantastic player.”
Manchester United will return to Premier League action on Monday night when they travel to Wolves in the top flight.
The Red Devils will be aiming to try and break back into the top four at the very least this season after they finished sixth and without a trophy under Solskjaer last term.
Manchester United, who have not won the title since 2013, also brought in Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James in the summer transfer window.
