Nemanja Matic has admitted that he is hoping that Paul Pogba remains at Manchester United beyond the summer transfer window.

The 26-year-old’s situation at Old Trafford has been a constant source of speculation in recent months amid talk of a potential move to Real Madrid for the World Cup winner.

Pogba missed Manchester United’s final pre-season friendly against AC Milan to further heighten the uncertainty about his future at the Old Trafford outfit.

It remains to be seen whether Pogba will end up staying at Manchester United for another season or if he will leave the club this summer.

However, midfielder Matic has admitted that he is hoping to see Pogba stay at the club and help the Red Devils to try and break back into the top four under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this season.

Speaking in an interview quoted by the Daily Mirror, Matic said: “We will see what is going to happen [with Pogba].

“He’s a Manchester United player and of course we will be happy if he stays.

“He is a great player and very important for the team.

“I don’t see that he’s going to leave. But in football anything is possible.”

Manchester United are set to kick off their Premier League campaign when they take on Chelsea FC at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

The Red Devils finished in sixth place in the table last term, with Solskjaer now preparing for his first full season in charge of the Red Devils.
