Ole Gunnar Solskjaer opens up on Man United's signing of Harry Maguire from Leicester City
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that Harry Maguire was his top target for Manchester United in the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils completed a deal to sign the 26-year-old centre-half from Leicester City towards the end of the window after plenty of speculation linking him with a move away from the King Power Stadium.
Maguire will be hoping to establish himself as a regular fixture in the Manchester United team this season as he looks to bring some added stability to the Red Devils’ back line.
The England international was also linked with Manchester City but it was their local rivals who ended up completing a deal for the central defender.
And Solskjaer has now revealed his delight at being able to complete a deal to bring the defender to Old Trafford this summer.
Speaking in an interview quoted by Manchester United’s official website, Solskjaer said before the game against Chelsea FC: “I’m delighted that we got Harry in.
He’s going to be great for this club. He was my number one target, and of course it took some time, but it does sometimes take time.
”I, more or less, made my mind up when we played Leicester last season that if it’s possible to get him we should try, because he’s so composed on the ball and he gives the team another dimension.”
Manchester United will return to Premier League action with a trip to Wolves next Monday night, before they take on Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Saturday 24 August.
The Red Devils are aiming to try and break back into the top four this season after they ended up sixth and without a trophy last term.
