Gary Lineker took to social media to praise Daniel James for a great goal in Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Southampton at St Mary’s on Saturday afternoon.

The summer signing has been settling in well to life at Old Trafford following his move from Swansea in the summer transfer window and he found himself in the starting line-up once again this weekend.

James fired Manchester United into an early lead against Southampton when he rocketed home a fine finish into the top right-hand corner from close range.

Manchester United went in ahead at the break, but Jannik Vestergaard headed home an equaliser for the home side in the 58th minute.

Kevin Danso was sent off for the hosts in the 73rd minute but the Saints held on to claim a valuable point and frustrate Manchester United.

Lineker was clearly impressed by what he saw from James and posted the following tweet after he had given the visitors the lead.

Lineker wrote: “Cracking goal from Daniel James. @ManUtd made 3 astute long term signings this summer.”

James has continued his fine form with a goal at Southampton.

He opened his Manchester United account with a goal in the 4-0 win over Chelsea FC on the opening weekend of the season.

He then netted another for the Red Devils during the 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace at Old Trafford last weekend.

Manchester United will return to Premier League action after the international break when they take on Leicester City at home on Saturday 14 September.
