The Daily Mail is reporting that the Red Devils are close to completing a swoop for the Croatia international with deadline day looming on the horizon.
The same article states that Manchester United are set to hand World Cup runner up Mandzukic a three-year contract worth an estimated £6.2m a year.
According to the same story, the 20-time English champions are singing Mandzukic as a replacement for Romelu Lukaku, who is wanted by Inter Milan and Juventus.
The Daily Mail go on to report that Lukaku is currently part of a swap deal for Paulo Dybala, but Juve will still try to sign the Belgian striker even if the Argentina forward rejects a move to Manchester United.
The report goes on to add that Juventus could use the money raised from Mandzukic’s sale to further improve their squad, or the Serie A giants could use the 33-year-old as a makeweight in a deal for Lukaku.
Manchester United will start the new Premier League season with a home clash against bitter rivals Chelsea FC at Old Trafford on Sunday.
