Michael Owen is backing Manchester United to drop more points in a high-scoring draw with Southampton on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Devils will be looking to return to winning ways at St Mary’s on Saturday following a 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace last time out.

Patrick van Aonholt scored a late winner to secure three points for Palace after Daniel James cancelled out Jordan Ayew’s opener at Old Trafford.

Manchester United have failed to win their last two Premier League games following a 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers in their last away fixture.

Southampton, meanwhile, bounced back from a 2-1 loss to Liverpool FC by easing to a comfortable 2-0 victory over Brighton and Hove Albion last weekend.

Former Liverpool FC striker Owen is backing Manchester United to draw with Southampton at St Mary’s on Saturday.

“Southampton’s Moussa Djenepo scored just 78 seconds after coming on as substitute at the Amex last weekend and it will be a surprise if the Malian winger did not get a start against a United side who have been shooting themselves in the foot from 12 yards in recent games,” Owen told BetVictor.

“United have only won one of their last nine games, but I think they will pick up a hard-earned point at St Mary’s in what promises to be a terrific game.”

Manchester United have made an unconvincing start to the Premier League season following a return of four points from their opening three games.

The Red Devils signed Crystal Palace defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Leicester City centre-half Harry Maguire and Swansea City winger Daniel James in the summer transfer window.

Manchester United finished in sixth spot in the Premier League table last season to miss out on a place in the Champions League.
