Michael Owen states his prediction for Southampton v Liverpool FC
Michael Owen looks ahead to Liverpool FC's trip to Southampton on Saturday afternoon
Michael Owen is tipping Roberto Firmino to help fire Liverpool FC to a victory at Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
The Reds head into the game fresh from their Uefa Super Cup victory over Chelsea FC in Istanbul on Wednesday night.
Goalkeeper Adrian proved to be the hero as he saved Tammy Abraham’s penalty in the shootout after a 2-2 draw following extra-time.
Liverpool FC kicked off their Premier League campaign with a 4-1 home win over Norwich City at Anfield last Friday as Jurgen Klopp’s men look to establish themselves as one of the contenders for the title once again.
And former Liverpool FC star believes that Firmino is set to be one of the stars of the show when the Reds head to St Mary’s on Saturday afternoon.
Writing in his column for BetVictor, Owen said: “Liverpool will have to do without keeper Alisson for the trip to St Mary’s, but I was disappointed with the Saints at Turf Moor at the weekend and expect the Reds to take all three points.
“Former Southampton forward Sadio Mane is likely to start against his former club having come off the bench against Norwich in Liverpool’s opening day 4-1 success, although I think Roberto Firmino might be the striker to follow on Saturday.”
Liverpool FC are aiming to try and win the Premier League title this season after they ended up second and just a point behind Manchester City last term.
The Reds did win their first trophy under Klopp last term when they beat Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League final back at the start of June.
