Charlie Nicholas is tipping Southampton to hold Liverpool FC to a 2-2 draw in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

The Reds head into the game fresh from having lifted their second major trophy under Jurgen Klopp in Istanbul on Wednesday night.

Liverpool FC beat Chelsea FC on penalties to claim victory in the Uefa Super Cup and add another piece of silverware to their cabinet.

The Merseyside outfit do not have long to turn their attentions back to Premier League affairs as they prepare for the long trip down to the South Coast on Saturday afternoon.

Liverpool FC got their Premier League campaign off to a winning start last week when they sealed a 4-1 win over Norwich at Anfield in front of their home fans.

However, former Arsenal star Nicholas is tipping the Reds to drop their first points of the season when they travel to St Mary’s this weekend.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Nicholas said: “I am not convinced by Liverpool this season. Are they going to be good enough for second? Yes they are.

“Liverpool cannot and will not be as good defensively – Alisson is out already, too. Southampton will be looking at different things and how to exploit this Liverpool team.

“Virgil van Dijk still makes mistakes and is an elegant, beautiful footballer to watch, but he is expected to win headers and play how he does.

“I think Southampton, after the rotten result, will be at it here.”

Liverpool FC finished in second place in the Premier League table and a point adrift of Manchester City last term.

The Reds did, however, manage to win their first major trophy under Klopp last term when they beat Tottenham 2-0 in the Champions League final at the start of June.
