Mark Lawrenson states his prediction for Southampton v Man United
BBC Sport pundit Mark Lawrenson is backing Manchester United to beat Southampton at St Mary's on Saturday afternoon
Mark Lawrenson is tipping Manchester United to ease to a 2-0 victory over Southampton at St Mary’s in the Premier League on Saturday evening.
The Red Devils will be looking to make a return to winning ways following their 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace at Old Trafford last weekend.
Manchester United have failed to win their last two Premier League games following a 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers last time out on the road.
The 20-time English champions will take on a Southampton side that registered their first win of the season last weekend after a 2-0 victory at Brighton.
Manchester United have only managed to win one of their last three games against the Saints.
But former Liverpool FC defender Lawrenson is backing Manchester United to beat Southampton at St Mary’s on Saturday evening.
“Manchester United hopefully won’t get a penalty in this one!” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.
“Southampton winning last week turned them around a bit for the better after a difficult start.
“Manchester United’s problem is going to be against teams that sit in deep and I don’t see their midfield having great creativity at the moment.
“There is something about United, though. I think they will be up and down all season but I think they will nick this one.”
Manchester United required an 89th-minute winner from Romelu Lukaku to secure a 3-2 victory over the Saints in their last meeting at Old Trafford back in March.
The Red Devils have drawn three of their last five games in the Premier League to suggest Southampton are something of a bogey team for Manchester United.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are already five points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool FC after three games.
Manchester United are in fifth place in the Premier League table.
