Arsenal 2 Tottenham 2: Jose Mourinho slams 29-year-old for key mistake
Arsenal 2 Tottenham 2: Sky Sports pundit Jose Mourinho says Mauricio Pochettino will be disappointed with Danny Rose's error
Jose Mourinho was critical of Danny Rose for Alexandre Lacazette’s goal in Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham in the north London derby on Sunday.
Tottenham appeared to be cruising to three points in the derby clash at The Emirates after goals from Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane in the opening 40 minutes.
The Denmark international capitalised on Bernd Leno’s mistake to bread the deadlock for the visitors from close range in spite of the transfer speculation surrounding his future.
Kane doubled the away side’s lead from the penalty spot when Granit Xhaka was penalised for a rash challenge on Son Heung-min in the penalty area.
However, Rose lost possession in the closing moments of the first half in the lead up to Lacazette’s brilliant solo goal in added time.
Arsenal were level with 20 minutes to go when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang managed to toe poke his finish past Hugo Lloris from Matteo Geundouzi’s cross.
Former Chelsea FC and Manchester United manager Mourinho was critical of Rose for his poor decision-making in the final moments of the first half.
“It was a big boost for Arsenal,” Mourinho told Sky Sports.
“If I am Mauricio, I’d be saying ‘Oh Danny, what did you do’. He can’t lose the ball. He knows the time [of the game]. He has a clock behind him.
“He has to play it safe. He can’t lose the ball in that position. The game was [almost] in the pocket. Danny can’t make that mistake.”
Tottenham will face another London rival after the international break when Crystal Palace make the trip to north London.
Arsenal will also take part in another London derby when Unai Emery’s side travel to Watford on Sunday 15 September.
