Jose Mourinho has suggested that Arsenal manager Unai Emery needs to train his players in the art of tackling.

The Gunners came from 2-0 down to rescue a 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur in the north London derby last weekend.

Granit Xhaka provided one of the talking points of the game when the Swiss midfielder dived into a tackle inside his own penalty area.

The Swiss midfielder’s rash challenge on Son Heung-min was penalised, providing Harry Kane with the chance to score from the spot.

Xhaka was heavily criticised by Manchester United legend Gary Neville and former Liverpool FC captain Graeme Souness during Sky Sports‘ coverage of the game.

However, former Chelsea FC and Manchester United manager Mourinho offered a different perspective on the incident.

“No [you never want them to go to ground] and to be honest I train a lot for these situations in the box, also with the hands because everything now is a huge danger,” Mourinho told Sky Sports after the game.

“Trying to train situations of one against one in the box without your arms, it’s not easy.

“I want my defenders to find balance and train balance without using their arms in the box, and to stay on their feet in a situation like this.

“With VAR it’s getting even more dangerous.”

Christian Eriksen and Kane both got on the score-sheet in the opening 40 minutes to put Tottenham in control of the north London derby.

However, Arsenal halved the deficit just before half-time thanks to Alexandre Lacazette’s goal before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang levelled in the 71st minute.

The Gunners will make the trip to Watford in their next Premier League on Sunday 15 September.

The north London side signed six new players in the summer transfer window, but Emery’s defence still requires a lot of work judging by their opening four games of the season.
