Nicolas Pepe has returned to Arsenal after withdrawing from international duty with the Ivory Coast, say reports

Nicolas Pepe has withdrawn from international duty with the Ivory Coast to focus on his fitness at Arsenal, according to reports.

talkSPORT is reporting that the winger had suffered a minor injury problem with Arsenal before the international break and he is now heading back to London Colney to work on his fitness levels.

It remains to be seen whether he will be fit for Arsenal’s next Premier League clash, which is a trip to Watford after the international break on Sunday 15 September.

The 24-year-old winger has been settling into life at The Emirates after having signed for the Gunners from Lille in the summer transfer window.

Pepe has impressed during his first few outings in an Arsenal shirt, although he is still yet to score his first goal for the north London club.

The Ivory Coast international has notched up one assist in four Premier League appearances for the Gunners.

He was unable to help the north London side beat local rivals Tottenham Hotspur in last weekend’s derby clash against Tottenham Hotspur, as the two sides played out a 2-2 draw at The Emirates.

Arsenal are currently in fifth place in the Premier League table after having taken seven points from their first four games.
