Frank Lampard explains why he’s benched Chelsea FC summer signing
Chelsea FC manager Frank Lampard opens up about why Christian Pulisic hasn't featured for the Blues in their last two games
Frank Lampard has shed light on why the Chelsea FC manager opted to leave Christian Pulisic on the bench in their last two fixtures.
The 21-year-old has made one assist in four games in his Chelsea FC career so far after he linked up with the Blues squad in the summer following a £58m move from Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund.
The United States international didn’t feature in Chelsea FC’s brilliant 5-2 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux Stadium last weekend.
Tammy Abraham scored a hat-trick to fire the west London side to their second Premier League victory under Lampard in their last five games.
Pulisic was also an unused substitute in Chelsea FC’s 1-0 loss to La Liga side Valencia in their Champions League opener at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night.
Chelsea FC manager Lampard has now explained that he opted to go with more experienced players than Pulisic in their last two games but reiterated the American remains part of his plans.
“He’s in the plans. We’ve got a squad, we’ve got wingers to choose from,” Lampard told his media conference on Tuesday night.
“The way we’re playing… with Pedro’s experience in the Champions League it was a choice to make. But Christian is well in the plans.”
Pulisic will be hoping to break into the Chelsea FC team for the visit of Premier League leaders Liverpool FC at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.
The Blues still haven’t won a game in front of their home supporters this term following successive stalemates with Leicester City and Sheffield United, as well as their 1-0 loss to Valencia.
