Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain praises two Chelsea FC stars
Liverpool FC star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain says he admires Chelsea FC duo Mason Mount and Ross Barkley
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has picked out Chelsea FC duo Mason Mount and Ross Barkley as two of the three players that he admires who play in a number eight role in the Premier League.
Frank Lampard hasn’t been afraid to give youth a chance at Stamford Bridge this season after he took over the reins from Maurizio Sarri in the summer.
Mount has been one of the big beneficiaries of Lampard’s appointment after securing a regular starting spot in the Chelsea FC team under the club’s record goal-scorer.
The 20-year-old has repaid Lampard’s faith with a return of two goals in four games so far, netting in a 3-2 victory over Norwich City and 1-1 draw with Leicester City.
Barkley has also got regular minutes under his belt following Lampard’s appointment but Mason’s performances have been one of the big positives at Chelsea FC so far this season.
Asked to name his favourite players who excel in a number eight role in the Premier League, Oxlade-Chamberlain inevitably named Manchester City superstar Kevin De Bruyne.
But the Liverpool FC midfielder heaped praise on Barkley and Mount – too.
“There are a lot. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scored a good goal against Man City in the Champions League and I’ve watched that clip a lot!” Oxlade-Chamberlain told The Times.
“Hendo [Jordan Henderson] has stepped forward into a more advanced role [at Liverpool] and he’s doing it really well. It has brought a sense of life out of him, a sort of energetic pulse.
“[Andres] Iniesta, historically, would be in the eight [role] picking up the ball, running, picking passes and scoring.
“Steven Gerrard would have been my ideal midfield general, growing up. It’s a bit more specific now but Kevin De Bruyne does it really, really well.
“I really like what Mason Mount has been doing. Ross Barkley, as well, can do it really well.”
Chelsea FC have collected five points from their opening four games.
Oxlade-Chamberlain and the Liverpool FC team are the only club left with a 100 per cent record in the Premier League this season.
