Ian Wright credits Frank Lampard for Chelsea FC star’s stunning form
BBC Sport pundit Ian Wright says Tammy Abraham is thriving because he's got a manager who believes in him
Ian Wright believes Tammy Abraham is thriving in the Chelsea FC team because the striker has a manager in Frank Lampard who believes in him.
The England Under-21 international is the leading goal-scoring in the Premier League alongside Manchester City’s Argentinian striker Sergio Aguero.
Abraham failed to score in his opening three games of the season to prompt criticism of the 21-year-old ahead of the west London side’s trip to Norwich City last month.
However, the former Swansea striker scored twice in a 3-2 victory over Norwich before Abraham netted another two goals in a 2-2 draw with Sheffield United.
The Chelsea FC striker continued his prolific form with a hat-trick in the west London side’s 5-2 victory over Wolves last weekend, becoming the third English player to net a treble for the Blues in the Premier League era.
Former Arsenal striker Wright believes Abraham is feeling confident because Lampard has shown his trust in the English striker.
“It’s a brilliant start [from Abraham],” Wright told BBC Sport.
“He was under a little bit of pressure at the start of the season with people saying he hasn’t adjusted for some reason. He has a manager whose got faith in him.”
Chelsea FC lost 1-0 to La Liga side Valencia in the Champions League at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night.
The Blues will return to Premier League action with a home clash against leaders Liverpool FC on Sunday.
Abraham will be hoping to score for his fourth successive game for the west London side.
