Kante made his return from injury at Stamford Bridge and produced a brilliant display in front of the Blues’ home fans – but he was unable to inspire the west London side to victory.
Goals from Trent Alexander-Arnold and Roberto Firmino put the visitors 2-0 up in the first half, before Kante pulled a goal back for the hosts with a brilliant solo effort.
The west London side were unable to conjure up an equaliser as Frank Lampard’s men suffered their second Premier League defeat of the season.
Kante’s comeback was one of the positives for Lampard’s side, and England legend Lineker took to Twitter to praise the midfielder after his second-half goal.
Lineker wrote on Twitter: “Superb goal from @nglkante. What a player.”
After the final whistle, Lineker added that he thought Chelsea FC were somewhat unlucky not to get anything from Sunday’s game.
He posted after the game: “Another enthralling game of Premier League football. @ChelseaFC a tad unfortunate to lose, but even when they’re not at their scintillating best @LFC seem to a find a way to win…15 PL games on the bounce, to be precise.”
Chelsea FC will return to Premier League action with a home clash against Brighton on Saturday afternoon.
Before that, they will host Grimsby Town in the third round of the League Cup on Wednesday night.
