Steve McManaman credited Roberto Firmino with elevating Liverpool FC to another level after his impact from the bench in Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Newcastle United.

The Brazil international started the Premier League clash on the bench as Jurgen Klopp looked to protect the forward ahead of their trip to Naples on Tuesday night.

Newcastle full-back Jetro Willems broke the deadlock in the seventh minute to put the home side under pressure.

However, Sadio Mane combined with Andy Robertson before the Senegal international curled a finish into the net.

Firmino came on to replace Divock Origi in the first half and the Brazilian teed up Mane with his second touch of the ball.

The Liverpool FC number nine created another goal in the second half with a gorgeous flick to find Mohamed Salah.

Former Reds winger McManaman was quick to heap praise on Firmino for his brilliant assist for Salah’s goal.

“The flick from Firmino,” McManaman told BT Sport.

“It’s incredible. The flick was sublime. It’s brilliant to see. It was absolute class from Firmino. They tried to protect him but in the end they bring him on and he brought Liverpool up to another level.”

McManaman added: “He has been a joy to watch for the 60 minutes was on the field. He was involved in Liverpool’s second and third. When he came on, he elevated Liverpool to another level.”

Firmino has scored two goals and has made three assists in five Premier League games so far this season.

The Reds have won their opening five Premier League games of the 2019-20 season.

Liverpool FC will take on Napoli in Italy on Tuesday night.
