The defending Premier League champions eased to a 4-0 victory over Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday to keep the pressure on their title rivals Liverpool FC.
The Merseyside outfit reclaimed top spot in the Premier League table thanks to a 3-0 victory over Burnley at Turf Moor on Saturday evening.
Liverpool FC are two points ahead of the title holders thanks to four successive victories over Norwich City, Southampton, Arsenal and Burnley.
Jurgen Klopp’s side only lost one game in the 2018-19 Premier League season but the Reds finished a point adrift of champions Manchester City.
Liverpool FC won the Champions League crown thanks to a 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the final.
Former Reds defender Carragher believes Liverpool FC and Manchester City are the two best teams in Europe.
“I think we have the two best teams in Europe,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“In some ways, and maybe people who don’t support Liverpool will not agree with what I’m going to say right now, but in some ways Liverpool are that good a side, they probably deserve a title.
“But the other best team in Europe are in the same league that could stop them and I think that would be unfortunate for Jurgen Klopp and this team, because it is that good a side.”
Liverpool FC will return to Premier League action after the international break with a home clash against Newcastle United at Anfield on Saturday 14 September.
The Reds have set a new club record with 13 successive victories in the Premier League to build a two point lead at the top of the table after four games in the current campaign.
Liverpool FC signed Sepp van den Berg, Harvey Elliott and Adrian in the summer.
